Asics with a side of TMI
I went shopping last week with my son. We hit up the outlet mall and had a blast.
While we were picking up school essentials for him, I decided to shoe shop. A task I wish was more enjoyable. But with Flintstone feet...it is far from enjoyable.
Scene: Random Outlet Shoe Store, Asics running shoe section, smelly red vinyl bench.
As I am trying to find cute wide sizes I hear a voice. "Hey those running shoes are the best." I start to reply but stop to avoid talking over this unfamiliar to me woman who has decided to speak to me. The next thing she tells me is that she has lost 93 pounds. I smile and say the only thing that comes to mind. Congratulations. The conversation continues. Her talking and me listening. Surgery details, 10 minutes of where she runs and how I should Facebook her and if I ever see her running on Dorchester I should honk at her because that is what motivates her to keep moving. I smile and agree to do just that.
One of the things I enjoy about the South is the friendly people. Folks go out of their way to wish you a nice day or grumble with you about the current price of a gallon of milk. At what point and in what location is it normal to start a conversation with random not completely relevant personal information about yourself??? I toyed with the idea of how awkward it would be if I had rebutted this nice ladies convo by telling her I used to weigh 118 lbs, in 9th grade.
I have things in my life I am proud of. It is possible that someone, somewhere might find these things interesting. I don't assume those people are complete shoe shopping strangers. But maybe I am wrong.
Maybe next time I am in the feminine product aisle at the store I will seek out an unsuspecting stranger and share with them my great love for Tampax and how I gave birth twice without any stitches.
Just an FYI...I am poking fun at this situation for comic value. I wasn't offended by the events that took place. Just a tad enlightened by just how open folks can be when they feel comfy with your energy.
